Do you want to buy a tire for your enduro motorcycle but aren't sure which model to choose?
Here’s a list of the main characteristics and what we consider useful:
1. Scenic Riding: Hills and Forest Trails?
If your main activity is riding off-road trails, you’ll likely need a tire with a harder compound.
The main advantages include:
- High durability
- Good grip for off-road riding
- Usable on the road without wearing out too quickly
- Performs well in mud and dirt
For this category, you can use any tire from the "Enduro Classic" category or even some harder motocross tires. The key is not to buy a super soft tire—it would be a waste of money.
2. Classic Enduro?
"Classic Enduro" refers to riders who do more than just forest trails and attempt technical climbs—around the difficulty level of Class C in a regional or national competition.
For this, you generally need a medium/soft compound tire. If the terrain has a lot of rocks and roots, you may need a super soft compound tire from the Hard Enduro category.
Rear Tires
- Michelin Enduro Medium – A great all-around tire for both dry and wet terrain. Not the best for wet rocks and roots but excellent on dry trails.
- Waygom Extreme Enduro – A budget-friendly, durable tire with surprisingly good performance.
- Mitas Terra Force (Green Stripe) – Similar to Waygom.
- Plew Tyre Grand Prix Medium – Similar to the Michelin Enduro Medium.
Front Tires
All medium-compound tires from the Hard Enduro category are suitable for classic enduro.
3. Hard Enduro?
This is a completely different category, requiring very soft tires that wear out quickly but provide maximum grip in extreme conditions like roots, rocks, and wet terrain.
Rear Tires
- Michelin Xtrem – Considered the most balanced hard enduro tire. Used by most top riders. Very soft, wears out quickly, but provides excellent grip in extreme conditions.
- Plews Tyres TOUGH ONE Extreme Super Soft (aka "Piu Piu" 🐥🐥) – Also available in Specs B (larger knobs). A great tire at a reasonable price, likely the best price-to-performance ratio currently. Popular in Romania’s Hard Enduro Championship, including the PRO category.
- Dunlop Geomax En91 Extreme – A surprisingly good soft tire from Dunlop. Directional (cannot be reversed). Comparable to Plews but slightly more expensive.
- Metzeler 6 Days Extreme Extra Soft – Similar in performance to Plews/Dunlop but at a slightly higher price.
- Mitas EF 07 Terra Force (aka "Double Green / 2 Stripes") – Similar in price to Plews, offering comparable performance.
Front Tires
The clear winner is the Michelin Enduro Medium 90/100 – Used by almost all top riders.
- Offers excellent trajectory control and braking in both dry and wet conditions.
- Works well in most terrains, making it the best overall choice.
- Expensive but worth it.
Other options:
- PLEWS TYRES 90/100-21 EN1 Enduro Grand Prix – Similar compound to Michelin Enduro Medium, with decent performance at a much lower price.
- Mitas Terra Force (Green Stripe) – Preferred by some for its larger knobs, which provide better braking on dirt and wet terrain.
- Metzeler 90/100 EXTRA SOFT – A super soft front tire with excellent grip on rocks and roots, even when wet. However, it has a much shorter lifespan.
